The Clutha District is dominated by the Clutha River along the banks of which sits the town of Balclutha, the commercial centre of this prosperous farming region. You'll also find the town of Clinton between Gore and Balclutha.

Clutha has a rich history to explore, particularly the remnants from its gold mining times. Other activities to enjoy in the region including surfing, boating and kayaking, fishing and walks. South of Balclutha lies the beautiful Catlins, home to a variety of rare wildlife such as the Hoiho (yellow eyed penguin).
